Do you know OEM? What is the difference between OEM and ODM? The following is the introduction of ODM from three aspects: technical content, profit distribution and development prospects. ODM, or "original design manufacturer", refers to that after a product is designed by a manufacturer, it may be favored by other enterprises in some cases, and it is required to match the brand name of the latter for production, or slightly modify the design for production. Unlike OEM, ODM is a new type of OEM with its own technology at a certain stage of the production process. The technologies used by enterprises in the production process are proprietary technologies with some or all intellectual property rights. The products produced by using proprietary technologies can be "labeled" as long as they meet the standards specified by foreign investors in terms of product performance. We call this mode of OEM "new OEM". Although this new type of OEM is also a form of contract manufacturing or OEM, there are essential differences between the two, mainly in three aspects:
1. The technical content is different. The traditional OEM is basically based on foreign technology, and there is almost no own technology, while the new OEM has at least partially owned its own technology.
2. Different profit distribution modes. The traditional OEM only relies on cheap labor to earn low processing costs, while the "new OEM" has changed the way and proportion of profit division due to the investment of its own technology, and the profit earned includes the added value of science and technology.
3. The future development prospects are different. Traditional OEM is only a learning process, and its development prospects depend to a large extent on whether the enterprise can obtain effective technology accumulation through the learning process, change the production mode in time, and "upgrade" the technology level in time; The "new OEM" has entered the stage of technological innovation, and the next stage of its development will be to create its own brand.
